Scope

This document specifies requirements for recycled gold, including definition, scope, sourcing and refining. Only organizations which are certified by a certification scheme aligned with Part 1 and managed by a scheme administrator following Part 2 requirements may use the definition of recycled gold from this document.

This document describes guidance principles that apply to the entire gold value chain, specifying eligible sources for recycled gold and setting refining requirements. This document does not outline the requirements for multicomponent products made of different gold components with their own typologies and assembled together.

Mined gold, mixed gold and recycled gold, once they have been refined, are physically and chemically indistinguishable. There is hence no reliable analytical method to verify that a given product is made specifically with recycled gold. The verification that a given gold is a recycled gold as defined in this document relies on documented proof for traceability provided by the organization.
