This document concerns corrosion of steel in concrete structures in terms of assessment, prevention and repair to comply with ISO 16311 series.
Assessment covers steel and concrete cover concerned with steel corrosion. Determination of the onset of corrosion is also included for further action (i.e. repair).
Prevention covers all possible techniques with their economic benefits, as consisting of external treatments. The prevention techniques are often used for repair in concrete structures against corrosion of steel. Also, service life and corrosion risk are dealt with. The preventive measures that can be used in the design stage for concrete structure are not dealt with in this document.
Repair deals with strategy for repair of concrete structures subjected to steel corrosion. Consideration includes recovery of steel and concrete cover, budgetary planning and service life extension.
This document does not include premature corrosion of steel before casting of concrete, such as corrosion of steel in handling.
