Scope

This document specifies the requirements and guidelines of a biodiversity approach applicable to any type of organization, whatever its size or nature (and in particular large groups, public institutions, local authorities, mid-cap companies, associations, micro-structures, single-member companies, etc.), its sector, its level of development and inclusion of biodiversity issues in its activities.

The objective of the biodiversity approach is to enable organizations, based on identification and prioritization of the issues, to avoid or reduce negative impacts on and to act in favor of biodiversity and to make their business more resilient by linking biodiversity planning, decision-making, action and monitoring to other key issue areas (including for instance climate change, pollution, social equity and economic value creation). It aims to integrate the issues of conservation, restoration and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystem services which the organization benefits from, into its strategy, through the implementation of a dedicated biodiversity approach.

The biodiversity approach includes: one, several or all of the organization's activities; one, several or all of the land tenure areas; all or part of its direct operations activities; all or part of its value chain, its products’ life cycle and its sphere of influence.
