In this document, a test sample is dissolved in water, and the dilution of the solution is to a known mass. The solution is nebulized into an inductively coupled plasma/atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-OES), and the intensity of the emitted light from metal ions is measured simultaneously.
This document is applicable to the determination of impurity metal ions such as aluminium (Al), calcium (Ca), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), potassium(K), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), nickel (Ni), lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) in lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6). The method is suitable for mass concentrations of impurity metallic ions in LiPF6 below 10 mg/kg. The scope of this method may be extended to higher mass concentrations of impurity metallic ions in LiPF6 if it can be shown that additionally occurring interferences are considered and corrected for carefully. It is up to the user to demonstrate the fitness for purpose.
Note The method is applicable for the other elements listed above, provided the user has verified the applicability.. Higher concentrations can be measured by adjusting the dilution ratio. Make sure that the calibration standards have been diluted in the same way.
