Their processing frequencies are between 1 Hz and 6 MHz. This standard is applicable to only processes where the energy transfer to the workload is by magnetic fields such as:– for heating of slabs, billets, rods, strip, wire, tubes, and rivets, for welding or subsequent hot forming and heat treatment;– zone-melting and annealing;– sintering;– sealing of mechanical gaps of vessels and tubes;– installations with crucible furnaces or channel furnaces for melting, holding and superheating;– stirring devices for casting machines, arc furnaces, and ladles;– transport of liquid metal;– influencing the ingot surface or the pouring stream enhancing crystallization by means of a magnetic field forces during continuous casting; This standard also deals with parts of conveying or handling equipment of the installation and the structures of the equipment or furnace, which are within the influences of the heating section and/or the magnetic field. This standard is not applicable to:– mechanical handling or sorting of solid materials by magnetic fields;– resistive and indirect resistance heating of any kind. NOTE 101 Resistive and indirect resistance heating equipment and installations for which this standard is not applicable are covered by IEC 60519-2:2006 and IEC 60519-21:2008. NOTE 102 Direct contact point welding is not dealt with by Technical Committee 27. This is the same as that which is called resistance welding in IEC 60050-851:2008, 851-11-08. Also see 3.1.101 in this standard.
