Overview: Under the direction of the Standards Policy and Strategy Committee, IST/35 is responsible for the UK’s participation in standardization activities related to Health Information and Communications Technology (ICT). The committee’s work focuses on achieving compatibility and interoperability between independent systems and enabling modularity. This includes developing and contributing to requirements for the structure of health information to support both clinical and administrative processes; defining technical methods that enable interoperable systems; and addressing requirements concerning safety, security, and quality. Through this work, IST/35 supports the development of harmonized standards in Europe (CEN/TC 238 Health Informatics) and internationally (ISO/TC 215 Health Informatics, ISO/TC 215/SC 1 Genomics Informatics, and ISO/TC 215/SC 2 Pharmacy and Medicines Business).
