L/1 - Electrotechnology Technical Advisory Group – (ETAG)

Overview: Reporting to the Electrotechnical Standardization Strategic Advisory Council (ESSAC) and providing advice to BSI management, ETAG has the responsibility to: 1. Provide advice on technical policy matters within the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), European Committee for Standardization (CENELEC) and nationally on behalf of the UK electrotechnology sector (electrical, electronic, and related technologies). 2. Develop positions and provide policy steer to the UK representatives of the IEC Standardization Management Board (SMB) and Technical Board (BT) on technical management board matters. 3. Propose new fields of technical activity for the UK to submit and lead within the IEC, including joint technical activities with ISO, and CENELEC. 4. Identify technical domains or areas which can be reorganized at the international level to maximise UK participation and ensure a coherent approach for standards-makers and users. 5. Provide advice on nominations and identify experts to participate in subgroup activity under the IEC SMB, such as Ad-hoc Groups, Strategic Groups, Systems Work, Advisory Groups and others as appropriate. 6. Advise and support ESSAC on the strategic implications of technical issues. 7. Nominate a volunteer to represent the UK on the IEC Standardization Management Board (SMB). 8. Resolve disputes on technical matters between BSI committees in the electrotechnology area where there are conflicts of scope or projects which involve two or more technical committees 9. Advise BSI input on standards development issues raised by electrotechnical BSI committees and act as a co-ordination committee for all electrotechnical committee activity.
