BS 7177-2:20XX Fire safety of mattresses, divans and bed bases – Part 2: Specification for non-domestic environments

Scope

This British Standard specifies requirements for the fire safety of mattresses, mattress pads, divans and bed bases used in non-domestic environments when tested in accordance with BS EN 597-1, BS EN 597-2 and BS 6807 including those in areas vulnerable to arson. It does not apply to mattress protectors, headboards or bedsteads, or to mattresses, mattress pads, divans and bed bases intended for use in domestic dwellings which are covered by BS 7177-1:20xx. The levels of ignition resistance have been set after careful consideration of the fire risk of the particular end-use environment involved. These levels do not necessarily reflect the behaviour of the mattress, mattress pad, divan or bed base in a fully developed fire. NOTE: Guidance on the applicability of hazard categories to particular premises are given in the notes to Table 1.

Purpose

The purpose of this British Standard is provide a series of requirements for burning behaviour of mattresses, mattress pads, divans and bed bases for hazard level end-use environments including those which may be vulnerable to arson. It can be used as a potential route to demonstration of the suitability of products to which it applies with the requirements of the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005 which applies in non-domestic end-use environments.
