Scope

This document specifies the designation system for technical products and technical project documentation. This document specifies the general structure and content of the designation sets required for the whole cycle of rolling stock. This document applies to railway rolling stock. The designation depends on the aspect used individually or in designation set combinations, for example: - function breakdown structure (FBS); - system breakdown structure (SBS); - product breakdown structure (PBS); - installation site/location.

Purpose

There is currently no international railway standard for rolling stock structure (FBS, SBS and PBS). The aim of this document, which is the migration of European standard EN 15380-1, is to have a common language between international companies regarding the different levels of the rolling stock design. And knowing that EN 15380 series is already used outside of Europe by some companies and some countries, it would be beneficial to have a document available at international level.
