This International Standard will provide the specifications for Latex Foam manufactured from Natural Rubber Latex, Synthetic Rubber Latex or combination of both. This will also cover the Test Methods of the Specifications for Foam products such as Mattresses, Pillows, Cushions and Toppers.
Natural rubber latex foam, once overshadowed in the commercial market by synthetic rubber latex foam and polyurethane foam due to economic advantages, is experiencing a resurgence driven by shifting consumer preferences towards sustainable materials. This trend has sparked increased awareness and demand for latex foam products made from natural rubber latex. Across Europe, Asia, and the USA, several leading latex foam rubber manufacturing companies have recognized this demand and diversified their exclusive synthetic rubber latex portfolios to include natural rubber latex foam. The current market size of 178,000 MT/A is estimated and is growing at about 6% pa especially in the emerging markets. However, ensuring the performance and uniformity of these products for trade and commercial activities requires adherence to scientifically designed quality parameters, typically in the form of specifications and standards. This emphasizes the importance of robust quality control measures to maintain product consistency and meet the evolving needs of consumers and markets worldwide. Hence, globally acceptable harmonious standard is recommended.
