Scope

This standard covers the requirement of the mono layer or more rotational molded polyethylene water storage vertical and horizontal tanks, dimensions and construction.

This standard is applicable to water storage tanks with a nominal service temperature from 1°C to 60°C. This standard is not applicable to underground or mobile water tanks.

Purpose

There were studies conducted on growing demand for water storage tanks in Saudi Arabia for the next years as water shortage threshold is 500 cubic meters per capita for the next 5 years. Considering that Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s most water-stressed countries and due to the region’s growing population and state-wide water usage as a result of local water sources drying out, local authority requires larger capacity tanks to contain water that is utilized for essential variety of purposes, including drinking water, food preparation, domestic usage, irrigation and in any other industries. Large volume of water may be conveniently stored in water tanks ranging from 100 liters to 10,000 liters and above and polyethylene tanks are typical or highly regarded type of water storage tanks due to the following factors:

- Strong and durable which can withstand to extreme varying weather conditions.

- Light-weight or can be easily transported and moved from one place to another.

- Flexibility in design allowing different shapes, sizes and colors.

- Food-graded and corrosion-free
