ISO/PWI 4201-1 Oil and gas Industries including lower carbon energy — Flame arresters – Part 1: Design, fabrication, and qualification

Scope

This document specifies requirements and provides guidance for the design, fabrication, and qualification of flame arresters applied in the petroleum and natural gas industries to avoid explosion propagation into and through pipework and interconnected vessels.

The document is also applicable for flame arresters used in Onshore and Offshore facilities of Oil and Gas industries including lower Carbon energy.

Purpose

The objective of this document is to develop the general design basis common to the whole flame arrester systems in Onshore and Offshore facilities of oil and gas industries including lower carbon energy.

This development shall take into account:

* Orientation and layout;

* Hazardous area classification and the flame arrester role;

* Environment conditions;

* Selection of control philosophy;

* Designing for intended use;

* Material and corrosion;

* Qualification tests;

* Performance standards.
