The objective is the to keep a full data trail of information, which were available during the search, development and acquisition of fingermarks on crime scenes
Fingermarks on crime scenes play an important role on solving crimes. During the inspection of a crime scene, fingermarks were searched and developed to make them visible for acquisition. The fingermark development can happen with multiple technologies involving intrusive chemical, or mechanical developments, but also non-intrusive physical developments using light with certain wavelengths and illumination angles. During the discussion among experts on Fingermark image data quality, the need arises to collect and interchange not only the acquired fingermark image data, but also intermediate meta data which were once available during this process. The existing finger image data interchange formats was identified as not suitable for this purpose. The experts of WG 3 expressed consensus on the need of a new interchange format with the dedicated scope on fingermark image data and related metadata
