This document is applicable to the workover rigs on offshore structures for the petroleum and natural gas industries
In the process of oilfield development and production, it is necessary to frequently solve various problems that occur in oil, gas, and water wells, or apply various oil recovery process measures to achieve the goal of improving oil recovery speed and ultimate recovery rate. In order to solve the above problems, it is necessary to carry out downhole workover operations and equip corresponding workover facility.
In offshore oil and gas fields, commonly used workover equipment includes mobile workover equipment and fixed platform workover rigs. Mobile workover equipment includes tender boat, lift boat, Jack-up platform rig etc. which is weather sensitive, with high workover costs. As a result ,a fixed platform offshore workover rig developed for offshore oil development. Offshore fixed platform have limited space, limited platform lifting capacity, and unique climate environments. To meet the needs of offshore workover operations, workover rigs for offshore fixed platform should use mobile bases and be able to move vertically and horizontally in the platform wellhead area and cover all wells. The release and implementation of this standard can help oil companies achieve integrity management of offshore fixed platform workover rigs throughout their entire lifecycle, and encourage workover rig manufacturers to adopt more standardized equipment to improve efficiency and quality. It is beneficial to the standardized design and construction of the platform where the workover rig is located. It is beneficial to the interchangeability and backup of equipment spare parts between different oilfields, reducing the cost of oilfield operation and maintenance. China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has done lots of work more than 15 years, and 13 Enterprise Standards about fixed platform work-over rig was published since 2005. In the past 10 years ,Almost 90% offshore wells workover operations carried out by a workover rig, that means more than 3000 wells. More than 90% of the offshore WRs in china are designed, constructed and installed by CNOOC.
Oil company’s requirement on WR is safe, economy, reusable, easy to deliver, so it is very important that we need a standard especially for WR. To satisfy the increasing offshore development demand and large scale application, we hope to contribute a new WR standard to guide the operation during design construction and to offshore installation.
