Antibacterial treated sanitary products have been getting familiar especially in Asian market. However, no ISO standard is available for evaluating antibacterial property of water-absorbent polyacrylates (SAP: Superabsorbents polymer). Although it is known that ISO 20743 and 22196 already exist as the test methods of antibacterial property for textiles and plastic products, they cannot be applied on SAP due to its absorption property. It is important to develop a global standard of the antibacterial property (i) to avoid market turmoil/consumer confusion accompanied by existing various indiscriminative standards in each country and (ii) to secure consumer safety. Furthermore, (iii) it can develop global market for antibacterial urine absorbing products.
