BS 559-2 Specification for the design and construction of signs for publicity, decorative and general purposes part 2: Installation, inspection and maintenance

Scope

This British Standard specifies requirements for the design and construction of signs for publicity, decorative or general purposes, at internal or external locations. It is applicable to illuminated and non illuminated signs, fixed or portable. This part has been created in incorporate the installation, Inspection, maintenance and documentation.

This standard is not applicable to road traffic signs, safety signs or fire safety signs.

Purpose

The standard is intended to achieve a framework for the inspection & maintenance of signs and the fabric to which signs are secured. Presently there is no guidance available for the sign owner over their responsibilities for the maintenance and upkeep of signs affixed to their premises. It is intended that the standard provides guidance as to the best practice guidelines for the sign owner in meeting their obligations under The Town & Country Planning (Control of Advertisement) Regulations 1992 Standard Conditions Schedule 1
