Revision of EN 10204; 2004 - Metallic products - Types of inspection documents

Scope

1.1. This European Standard specifies the different types of inspection documents supplied to the purchaser, in accordance with the requirements of the order, for the delivery of all metallic products e.g. plates, sheets, bars, forgings, castings, whatever their method of production. 1.2 This standard may also apply to non-metallic products. 1.3 This standard is used in conjunction with the product specifications which specify the technical delivery conditions of the products. NOTE 1 The list of information that may be included in the inspection documents can be found in appropriate documents, e.g. prEN 10168 for steel. NOTE 2 Annex A gives a summary of the different inspection documents.

Purpose

Following the Systematic Review of EN 10204:2004, in reviewing the comments submitted, (N316) the SC took a decision at its plenary on 7 April 2020 to pursue an update to the EN based on concerns that, where lengthy supply chains are in place, documentation may not accurately describe the product at all positions along the chain. The language in EN 10204:2004 needs to be more explicit in terms of definitions and clarity around issuing certificates required.

Note: This was originally agreed to be started as an active work item, but subsequently it was determined that a PWI should commence first.

Note: in case the WI is based on documents from other organizations than ISO/IEC, please specify it here
