CEN/TC 346 N 996 N 997, Activation of PWI prEN 15999-2 Conservation of cultural heritage – Guidelines for design of showcases for exhibition and preservation of objects – Part 2: Technical aspects

Scope

This European Standard defines and classifies properties of showcases for the safe and secure display of cultural heritage objects, reducing environmental interaction and complying with the requirements for better preservation. It can be applied to most uses of the showcase: showcases for so called permanent or temporary exhibitions, historical or modular showcases, showcases in uncontrolled ambient environment, etc.

Purpose

This standard will offer a common basis for the dialogue and collaboration between end-users (collection managers, conservators, curators, installers, technical agents and more), designers (architects, persons in charge of scenography or museography and more), manufacturers, and contracting authorities who are in charge of the cultural institutions in Europe. It will propose different levels of requirements to build the most efficient, cost effective, and sustainable showcase, in the context of temporary and long-term exhibitions.
