ISO/TC 142 N809 ISO/PWI 16313-2 Laboratory test of dust collection systems utilizing porous filter media online cleaned using pulses of compressed gas -- Part 2: Systems utilizing integrated fans

Scope

This Standard specifies the standard test method useful to assess the performance of dust collection systems utilizing integrated fans (compact type dust collector), which shall be applied with or without flow control.

This standard is not intended to offer the superiority or inferiority of performance between dust collectors, but specifies a standard test method that provides users with performance under simulated conditions of use for a certain duration.

Purpose

Dust control filtration systems using pulse cleaning are widely used to remove particulate matters suspending in gas to clean work place environment, and so on.

This type of dust collection systems is most popularly used because of easiness in handling. However, design concept of the collector is different strongly depending on the size and type of dust generation source, amount of gas flow rate, dust concentration and also on the usage. In general, compact type dust collector is designed by manufacturer’s own specification and is manufactured at its factory as a plug-in type system so that users are neither required any special knowledges nor skills about dust collection nor dust collection system.

Hence user selects such a system, based on their demand and the information given by the manufacture. Most case, it is used individually to remove various types of dusts from small dust generation sources.

It is natural that performance of dust collectors manufactured at different manufacturers is different with each other because of different design and specifications. Furthermore, performance of individual dust collector at actual operation is different from that at the point of manufactured, and it changes not only with operation time but also by dust, carrier gas, temperature, pressure and so on. Although manufacture evaluates the performance of their products at simulated used condition by their own test method, it is difficult to compare the performance between systems from different manufacturers obtained different test method and idea. This means that it would be better to provide a standard reference test method to predict the performance under simulated used condition of dust collector before product is delivered to users.

The major objective of this international standard is to specify the standard reference testing method to assess the relative change of performance of dust collection system utilizing integrated fans. In this test, performances of the systems such as system pressure drop, gas flow rate, energy consumption of the system and particle emission from the system at the simulated used condition of the equipment, will be evaluated. Filter efficiencies (or emission) of PM10, 2.5, 1 are, of course, important performance of the system and thus they can be added after the negotiation between stake holders but the performance obtained from this test does not guarantee the performance or certification for users.
