Standards Development

Scope

This part of ISO 17123 specifies field procedures for the determination and evaluation of the precision of UAV photogrammetry systems and their ancillary equipment when used in building construction, civil engineering, surveying, industrial measurements, agriculture applications, disaster reporting and others.

Primarily, these tests are intended to be field verification of the suitability of a particular instrument system for the immediate task at hand and to satisfy the requirements of other standards. They are not proposed as tests for performance evaluation which are more comprehensive in nature.

Purpose

- The use of UAV measuring systems is expanding and is getting popular in applications of civil engineering, construction execution, surveying, agriculture and disaster prevention.

- Compared with TLS measurement, UAV measuring systems (with photo camera) have advantages like easier handling and planning of measurement and of measuring a wider area in shorter measuring time.

- Quick and easy meaurement are especially demanded and helpful for topographic measurement when disaster occures.

- UAV measurement (with photo camera) is becoming very popular for the measurement of terrestrial shape in preliminary survey before making construction design.

- In Japan, due to governmental leadership to improve construction process more effective, applying UAV measurement (with photo camera) is obliged in preliminary survey phase for construction ordered by national and local governments.

- A UAV measuring system (with photo camera) is configured by UAV body and photo camera which are available on the market, therefore, relatively reasonable costs can be achieved.

- With these development of the market situation, the use of UAV measuring systems (with photo camera) is expected to expand and extent further and get populary rapidly.

- Accordingly, we expect that the demand for a 'Field test procedure' will increase.
