ISO/PWI 13006 Ceramic tiles -- Definitions, classification, characteristics and marking

Scope

Revision to 13006 to address the following:

• Inclusion of criteria for tiles 7 cm.

• Clarification of terminology and criteria relating to thickness.

• Clarification of terminology and criteria relating to panels/slabs, including potential updates to the scope of 13006.

• Applicability of frost resistance criteria to certain products. • Other updates and improvements

Purpose

Regarding criteria for tiles 7 cm, experts from the TC have expressed a desire to establish criteria for mosaic tiles, which are not currently in the scope of 13006. The attached working document incorporates draft criteria based on the efforts of CEN/TC 67.

Regarding thickness, 13006 currently uses the term “work size thickness” without definition or certainty that manufacturers are regularly declaring this value. Experts from within the TC agree that more consideration should be given to this topic, including test methodologies and how thickness variation is being measured and reported. Initial discussions will be held regarding whether deviation should be considered in relation to a declared work value, average of measurements, and/or nominal size. Collaboration with WG1 regarding test methodology is anticipated.

Regarding panels/slabs, experts from the TC have expressed establishment of such terminology could be helpful in maintaining significantly large products under the purview of the ceramic tile industry.

Regarding frost resistance, FDIS comments from a previous revision suggested certain products intended for warm climates should not be subject to such criteria.

The WG will take the opportunity to review other sections of 13006 for potential improvement.
