CEN/TC 444, Characterization of environmental solid matrices --Halogens and sulfur by oxidative pyrohydrolytic combustion followed by ion chromatography detection and complementary determination methods

Scope

This European Standard specifies a method for the direct determination total fluorine, chlorine, bromine and sulfur content in environmental solid matrices. The method is applicable for the determination of concentrations ≥ 10 mg/kg of each element based on dry matter. The upper limit and exact concentration range covered depends on system blank levels of instrumentation and capacity of the chromatographic separation column used for determination.

Purpose

The technique included in the standard to be developed complies with the latest analytical technologies. The proposed combustion method will greatly improve on user-friendliness, automation capability and lead times, compared to the current procedure described in e.g. EN 14582, EN 15408, ISO 16994. No hazardous waste is produced and the analytical technique is safer as compared to the current technique (EN 14582).
