The noise emission for which this document is applicable is measured by means of ISO 11819-1, or similar methods such as the American methods SIP and CTIM. It is also applicable to other pass-by measurements, such as when testing tyres and vehicles on test tracks with ISO 10844 reference surfaces.
Measurement results obtained at a certain temperature, which may vary over a wide range, are normalized to a designated reference temperature (20 °C) using a correction procedure specified in this document.
The purpose of this procedure is to substantially reduce the uncertainty in coast-by, SPB and other pass-by noise measurements due to varying temperature.
Testing of road vehicles and/or their tyres as required by regulations suffer from uncertainties due to temperature influences.
A procedure is provided by which the uncertainties of testing noise emissions of road vehicles and/or their tyres can be substantially reduced.
A more accurate specification of noise emission of road vehicles and/or their tyres will bring value to the end-users.
