A published standard is the result of months of collaborative work between BSI and a wide variety of interested parties. In order to produce standards that accurately reflect the needs of the relevant industries, BSI consults and seeks representation from many different spheres. These spheres include: consumer organizations, professional institutions, certification, testing and inspection bodies, educational establishments, research organizations, UK notified bodies, enforcement bodies, government departments and trade associations. Participation is, however, on a voluntary basis.
The individuals that are attracted to standards work are highly motivated, experts in their field of work, and passionate about upholding high standards. BSI provide dedicated staff that are knowledgeable in the process of writing standards. Consequently, the standards that BSI publishes are internationally respected, enabling UK industries to maintain best practice and market leadership.
